WNIN- Emily Miles

WNIN, Evansville Metro Division

Best Student Reporter- Emily Miles

Let me introduce you to a bright talent who we were fortunate to have with us in 2018 at WNIN.  Indiana University student Emily Miles came to WNIN as the digital producer of our bilingual podcast, ¿Qué Pasa Midwest? Seeing her skill with video, animation and web production, we offered to let Emily do some radio reporting as well.

Emily’s work at WNIN is split between the QPM podcast and radio reporting. The attached links show an incredible output for a student journalist of high quality content in audio, video, animation and web production.

We encourage you to check the attached links as well as listen to the audio file provided. There you will find innovation, passion and skill that reflects the newest trends in content distribution as well as the highest traditions of our profession.

We think you’ll enjoy listening to this entry. The writing, production skill and style reflect a talent far more advanced than Emily’s age and experience would indicate. Her pacing and delivery are delightful to hear. Her ability to make the listener comfortable- get them to settle in and commit time for a long feature- is truly amazing for a student reporter.

While Emily tends to make good radio look easy, her productions are the result of hard work, thorough research, an empathetic ear for her subject and a passion to create good journalism.  We encourage you to review the online versions of Emily’s work to get the full breadth of her skill with video, images and social media as tools for her storytelling.

Thanks for reviewing this entry. We ask for your support for the high honor of an Associated Press award.

Entry Rundown:

:00-2:38  News of the Day Feature- Evansville PRIDE picnic.

2:41-3:27 Spot News- HOLA festival preview

3:30-10:23 In Depth Reporting- As part of WNIN’s day-long coverage of the opening of a new medical school in downtown Evansville, we asked Emily to take a look at whether the recent growth in the downtown area is sustainable. The result was far from the usual business feature. This is part four of a series on the subject.
