D’Angelo Taylor officially entered the race for the second ward seat on city council Monday morning. Taylor, the assistant director of the Multicultural Center at the University of Southern Indiana, is challenging an incumbent city councilmember in the Democratic primary.

Taylor said affordable housing is one of the big ticket items on his agenda. "Making sure that folks have affordable options to live in which they’re not being gouged by the rising utility rates," he said. He added that supporting businesses in the second ward is also a priority.

This isn’t Taylor's first time running for office. He ran for mayor of Macomb, Illinois in college. He didn’t win, but the race taught him a lesson.

"It’s not just about winning and losing. It’s really about making sure that those ideas are at the table," he said, explaining that he put forth  suggestions for economic development during his campaign. "Those ideas that I put forth are being used today, and even though they’re not being used by me, they’re still helping folks I cared about in that community."

He’ll run against incumbent Missy Mosby, a real estate agent, in the primary. Mosby plans to file next week.
